Basavanagudi service club was founded by Proff. Ballave Venkanarayanappa in 1908. Prof Bellave was an early setteler in 1900 started this club for Reading room,Library and recreational cards.The Club started functioning in its present premises from 18th August 1920.
No other club in Bangalore, perhaps, carries as much literary aura as the Basavanagudi Union and Services Club.
Also know as Masti Club — after the father of short fiction in Kannada, Masti Venkatesha Iyengar, its most cherished member — the 106-year-old place preserves his memory in many corners.
It has been recorded that many great and luminary citizens of Bangalore such as Masti Venketesh Iyenger , DV Gundappa were regular members of social fabric.They set very high ethical and social standards at the club.
